For this week, I have picked an easy route again, another hike starting from Tai Po Market Station, we will take the taxi to "chung chai" garden where the park entrance is and follow the well signed path and many of the vegetations are also well marked. Total walking time is about 2 hours.
Sai Kung Tai Long Wan at Sai Kung on 24 Nov 2002
Sai Kung Tai Long Wan area is one of the few areas in Hong Kong that is relatively undisturbed, thus it is one of the most beautiful areas in Hong Kong. But we have heard that the government has started some construction project there :-( On this trip, from Choi Hung, we will take the bus or mini-bus to Sai Kung and then take the taxi or village bus 29R to Sai Wan Ting. From Sai Wan Ting, we will walk through Sai Wan -> Ham Tin Wan -> Tai Long Kau -> Chek King -> Pak Tam Kau. From Pak Tam Kau, we will take 96R back to Diamond Hill MTR, or 94 -> Sai Kung.
Shung Mun Reservoir at Shung Mun Reservoir on 16 Feb 2002
Take mini van No. 82 to the Pineapple dam and walk a full circle around the Shing Mun Reservior. There is very a informative visitor centre at the starting points, plenty of interesting views, lots of trees and bamboo forest and of course the reservoir.
Lamma island at Lamma island on 17 Aug 2002
For this hike, I have decided to choose an easy route and probably most people are familiar with. We are going from Yung Shae Wan to Sok Kwu Wan, stopping by Hung San Yee Wan (beach) where you can swim and/or play with the sand. Dinner at around 6:30pm the famous Rainbow Restaurant at Sok Kwu Wan. If you are not having dinner, you can take the ferry from Sok Kwu Wan back to Central. For Ferry schedule, click here.
Ka Lung Tam, Luk Keng, Fan Lin at Fan Lin on 15 June 2002
Just in case if you are wondering why we are organising a hiking trip on a Monday, 20 May is a holiday in HK, it's the buddha's birthday. Since the weather is getting hot, I want to pick a short, gentle walk that is cool and with interesting scenic spots. Ka Lun Tam contains an interesting geographic feature in which the big rocks along the stream has many small round holes. They were formed by the abrasion between the rocks and small stones or sand trapped in the uneven surface of the rock and stream provides the energy and made the stones and sand to move in a circular manner. Some of these holes are actually connected to each other. We should be back to Fan Lin by 6pm.
Hoi Ha Wan snorkling at Hoi Ha, Sa Kung on 25 Aug 2002
Organised by Jean and Joanne. Very hot and I wish I could go scuba diving and see more of the marine life in Hong Kong
Bridal and Mirror Pools at Tai Po on 1 Oct 2002
This is also a very easy hike. From Tai Po station, the bus no. 275R (weekend and holiday only) will take you all the way to the Bridal Pool and no. 75 will take you to Tai Mei Doe and takes about 40 mins to get to Bridal Pool. We'll take the 275R. After visiting the Bridal Pool and Fall, we will hike our way to the Mirror Pool and Fall which are also very impressive. We can spend a relax afternoon at the pool before returning the same path to catch the bus back to Tai Po Station.
