Unuttered love is all the more melodious. Asako is an ordinary housewife who takes care of her husband and daughter. However, when her daughter's schoolmates see her communicate not with sound but with her hands, she is immediately labelled as a handicap. Her calm world is suddenly filled with malicious whispers and sniggers. Even her daughter is mocked at school. She realizes that deaf-mutes, just because they communicate differently, are discriminated in society.

Asako is asked by her friends to re-join their deaf-theatrical troupe - Hands, which tries to promote mutual understanding with the hearing people through drama and plays....

This is a movie you can only see with your eyes, yet the message is thundering. It is Beyond Silence with a social theme. Simple yet touching, it does not scream for recognition and respect. Instead, by sharing their lives, we come to share their dignity. There is no handicapped love, only souls crippled by prejudice and condescension.

How was Hiking 01#07 Chun Yeung Festival Thursday 25 October 2001: Sai Wan?

Trip plan: From Choi Hung, we will take either a bus or mini bus to Sai Kung, followed by taxi to Sai Wan Pavillion and we will walk to Sai Wan, a relatively undisturbed beach where we can spend a relaxing afternoon at the beach. It is optional for the more adventruous, we can continue the path towards Tai Long Wan. Please bring snacks and drinks.

Trip report: 14 people turned up on a beautiful autumn day with plenty of sun shine and decent temperature. We practically took over the 16-seater mini-bus and headed off to Sai Kung where we boarded 3 taxi and about 20 minutes later, we arrived at the Sai Wan Ting having passed the entrance of Man Yee Reservior. This was where our hike began, it took us about 40 minutes to get to Sai Wan. A really beautiful beach that is relatively undisturbed, there were however plenty of people on this Chung Yeung Festival day off. We saw a squad of young people practicing karate. Some of our hiking team stayed behind at Sai Wan while the enthusiastic ones advanced to Ham Tin Wan. The hike from Sai Wan to Ham Tin is a little bit more demanding and satisfying for our tough hikers, especially as we rushed our way back to Sai Wan in less than 25 minutes. We had dinner at a Japanese restaurant in Sai Kung and enjoyed our desserts at the popular "Moon Kei" before heading home.
