Hiking 02#04: Sat 15 June 2002 Ka Lung Tam, Luk Keng, Fan Lin

(Source: www.traveler.com.hk)
  • Time and Date: 2pm Sat 15 June
  • Meeting place: Ticket office of Fan Lin KCR Rail Station
  • Difficulty: 1 (1-5, 1 = easy)
  • Time: ~2hrs walking time
  • Description: Just in case if you are wondering why we are organising a hiking trip on a Monday, 20 May is a holiday in HK, it's the buddha's birthday. Since the weather is getting hot, I want to pick a short, gentle walk that is cool and with interesting scenic spots. Ka Lun Tam contains an interesting geographic feature in which the big rocks along the stream has many small round holes. They were formed by the abrasion between the rocks and small stones or sand trapped in the uneven surface of the rock and stream provides the energy and made the stones and sand to move in a circular manner. Some of these holes are actually connected to each other. We should be back to Fan Lin by 6pm.

How was hiking 02#03: Sat 9 Mar 02 Lun Fu Shan Chinese Medicine Garden To The Peak

Did not bring the memory card for my digital camera, so no photo for this trip :-(

Trip plan: We will first visit the University Museum and Art Gallery at Hong Kong University, then to the Chinese Herbal Medicine plantation area in Lun Fu Shan. All the herbal medicines are clearly labelled. We will then hike our way to The Peak and enjoy afternoon tea there before heading down the hill by tram or otherwise

Trip report: It was a nice warm day, in fact, much hotter than we expected for April in HK. As planned, we visited the Arts Museum at University of Hong Kong. Since some of our fellow hikers are graduates of HKU, we went through all the short cuts and reached the entrance of the residence of the vice-chancellor. We then walked through a nice cool path and reached the plantation area, though it is only a small area, all the Chinese medicine plants are well labelled along with a list of their medical use. We were disappointed to find that the temple at Lun Fu Shan has been demolished about 2 years ago. We continued our journey to the Peak and enjoyed a very relaxing afternoon tea at Cafe Deco. I think, we spent more time chatting at Cafe Deco than hiking...
